Here is one of the storyboards for my film:

The storyboard artist is Cinjeon Gauh.  This is the second of the “free” panels I got for buying him a drink about a month ago.  It’s actually a very fun and rewarding process to see the first stage of my vision for the film come to life through storyboards.

Filming begins at the end of February!  Exciting.  :)

Free at last… I just finished my Junior year at SVA. Only one more year to go and then - cue fanfare - the real world.

Last Friday I went to the Dusty Film Festival, where all of the Senior thesis films are screened. I went in not expecting much so I was pleasantly suprised when one film was really quite amazing- Sarah Stuve’s My Dead Brain. Basically it takes place in a girl’s mind where she is fighting with aspects of herself over how to act. The film makes statements about certain pop culture issues… For instance, she’s watching TV with a gun to her head and the only way to change the channel is by pulling the trigger or she is watching a workout TV show while stuffing down cupcakes. Words fail to do the film justice in explaining it. Its ultimately a very trippy visual/aural art film that must be experienced to be appreciated. Art films really aren’t even my cup of tea and I ended up liking it… a lot. I’m not sure if it won anything, but it definitely merits it above the rest.

I’ve begun some initial work on my Thesis idea, while working on a complete overhaul of East Side Story with Cinjeon. I think it needs the title changed because ESS brings up too many preconceived notions, which the film must stray away from.

I entered Duplicity into channel 13’s Reel 13 short film competition, where 3 semi-finalist films are selected each week and voted on by viewers on their website. The winner is shown late Saturday night on channel 13 and receives a $500 prize (just showing it on TV is great.) Duplicity was improved a little more since last year’s cut, like adding a muzzle flash and improving the audio. If it becomes a semi-finalist, you’ll be the first to know.
